Hail Mary; Tragic new MAiD milestone; My first jukebox bingo
3 Things this week and a poem
Thanks for spending some time this weekend with Things I Wrote Down. Here are three things that stood out this week online, and a poem.
Hail Mary
Beside Daniel, the new biblical epic coming to theatres this year, there’s one other film I can’t wait to see. I’m re-reading the book just to get ready.
Hail Mary is already being hailed as one of the best films of the decade. My older brother Chris, with whom I swap sci-fi books with, was scandalized at how much they reveal in the trailer (which got me pumped).
You still have time to read the book before its upcoming release. If you love sci-fi, tales of humanity overcoming, or movies then I urge you to read it before the release so we can compare notes..
Tragic new MAiD milestone
I was wondering why there was so much posting on X this week by Americans about MAiD. Turns out that a new stat broke through all the noise to shock people, something we already knew was coming: Canada is on track to reach over 100,000 doctor-assisted suicides since the Criminal Code was changed in 2016 to allow doctors to kill their patients.
Rupa Subramanya once again had important reporting on how quickly MAiD deaths take place: 1 in 20 deaths in Canada is instigated by the Canadian government’s health care system. In some provinces, up to 30% of these deaths take place on the same day that the individual sought government approval to die.
If you don’t follow Rupa’s reporting, you should consider it. And if you haven’t watched our documentary series MAiD in Canada, you can watch it for free at UnveilTV. You’ll learn a lot and start praying for Canada.
My first Jukebox Bingo
Have you played Jukebox Bingo yet? It’s pretty fun. We attended a fundraiser for our local Lions and Lioness Club, which is raising money for a new pavilion in our local park.
What is Jukebox Bingo?
A DJ spins up hit songs, you try to recognize the tune, you dab the square if you have the title and angle for a bingo. It’s a night of music and fun. I’m terrible at recognizing lyrics, but by the time we got to the chorus (and with the help of Shazam), I got most of the songs.
If you’re looking for a new kind of fundraising option, consider it. It’s a blast!
Poem - Concerning the Realm in Real
I dug into the archive for this poem, which has always been punchy to me. Fun to dig things out of the treasure chest, dust them off and share them. Hope you enjoy it.
