Write a poem; share a poem; win cash prizes
There's still time to enter my poetry contest, and I hope you do.
There’s still time to enter the First Ever Poetry Contest for Things I Wrote Down.
The contest is open to all my subscribers. I’ve already received quite a few submissions, and just wanted to drop a reminder that submissions are open until the end of May.
Why I’m investing my own money to encourage other writers
My hope through this contest was to both encourage other writers and to explore the theme of building others up. It seemed important in these times.
I decided to offer cash prizes to put my money where my mouth is as a way of building others up in their own creative journeys. It’s not a massive cash prize ($600 total), but it’s what my wife and I are able to afford to do at this time. We love the humble offerings. God can always multiply the small loaves and few fish we bring.
And we’re already seeing that happen! I wanted to write that down to testify. I’ve been BLOWN AWAY at how many writers have expressed interest in sharing their work. It’s been such a pleasure to meet and discover other poets here on
.Whether the contest motivates you because there are cash prizes, or because it will push you to take a creative risk to share or create new work, I’m glad that it’s stirred up interest in so many people!
You want these judges to read your work
Every poetry contest needs judges to vet the work. And that’s been another pinch-me part of this whole experience. I cannot get over the incredible talent of the judges who’ve agreed to take part in this to select the winners.

If you haven’t yet, please check out their Substacks and give them a follow.
I’m featuring each of them here on TIWD. So far I’ve shared my interviews with Marcia and Gideon, and in the coming weeks, stay tuned for interviews with Ella and Daniel.
Write a poem, share a poem, build others up
Contests have opened doors for me. They’ve given me confidence, they’ve connected me with other writers, and they’ve challenged me to create. Win or lose, they’ve been important catalysts for me in my creative journey.
I’m excited to, in this small way, help nurture and provide opportunity for others to explore creating and sharing original verse. So, the invitation is yours to take up!
The contest is officially open and it will close on May 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.
