We hear the word “prompt” being used all the time now. People prompt AI with questions and commands to build apps, products, and simplify their lives.
But there’s another kind of prompt, more significant, with eternal implications. In the noise of this AI moment we must awaken to it: the nudge of the Holy Spirit.
Read through the book of Acts (which documents the original outpouring of the Holy Spirit) and you’ll be amazed. It’s striking how Heaven prompts earth and changes history
The Spirit instantly live-translated a sermon into every language represented in Jerusalem at Pentecost, requiring no batteries, devices, and with no lag time (Acts 2:1-13.
The Spirit dropped embezzlers to the ground, dead for their lies, without the need of AI-guided weaponry (Acts 5:1-11).
The Spirit teleported Phillip from one location to another, after interpreting Isaiah to a travelling emissary who was praying for wisdom. The self-driving tech of the Spirit navigated the apostle in an instant and didn’t ask for a tip or a starred review (Acts 8:26-40).
Through multiple push notifications to the heart of Peter, the Spirit activated a vision that transformed the way the future of the gospel would go into the world, upgrading the platform, giving free access to God—Jew and Gentile alike—through the use of animated 3D animal avatars, projected deep in Peter’s psyche without needing a Neuralink (Acts 10).
All of that just in a matter of a few chapters.
Don’t worry about missing the AI wave; worry about missing the Spirit’s tsunami
There is a consequential and historic shift in the market and in tech that every industry and everybody is adapting to.
But what we look to matters now more than ever. Where we look leads us down certain pathways. One on a path pursuing earthly glory, another, through the guidance of chatbot voices. The other to the quiet place where Spirit gives purpose and power to people stunned and surprised by the events of their times. People who can’t do it because of their own power or wisdom.
Even if we successfully leverage AI in every way, have it do everything for us, we are still left with ourselves, our inner worlds. And no prompt on earth can sort that out for us.
It’s worth adapting with the times. It’s not wrong to explore the new world of automation and generation. Just like the Industrial Revolution where new technology transformed the world as it was known to the people of its time, there’s wisdom in properly adjusting to what’s new and learning how to prompt AI and use it appropriately.
But, God forbid, we miss out on the prompts of the Spirit, directed to us from an all-knowing, all-loving God. Prompts that change history, our lives, and the lives of those around us for His glory.
