About the book
The Many Dreams of Joseph explores the five named Josephs in the Bible through poems, short stories and the main thing they have in common: the prophetic, technicolour dreams they share through the centuries. Featured in the collection are: Joseph, son of Jacob; Joseph, husband of Mary; Joseph called Barsabbas; Joseph of Arimathea; and Joseph, son of Encouragement (known as Barnabas).
The central character of the story is Joseph, son of Adam, a modern-day Joseph. Throughout his life Joseph blends narratives—fairy tales and Bible stories—and is haunted by a figure who teaches him to listen to his dreams. As he falls in love with Becky, the girl he meets at Bible college, his reality starts to split. When he has a mental health crisis, he longs to be healed by faith, not medicine.
The multiple, century-spanning narratives collide in the spellbinding climax as Joseph, son of Adam, wavers between life and death in his hospital bed and must begin to dream new dreams.
