Coffee is a miracle; Denzel does Gladiator II; Upstaged by a rabbit
3 Things this week and a poem
How terrible to see the footage last night of an attempted assassination on former President Trump. It was all over X. An already intense election got even more high stakes.
History is shaped by milliseconds and inches. If you're an American reader, know that I and many others are praying for peace in the USA. May your milliseconds be covered by grace.

This week Petra and I took a few hours at a nearby Nordic Spa and it was so relaxing. I gotta admit, I could get into cold plunging (as long as I have a well maintained hot tub nearby). If you’re ever in the area, I recommend checking it out.
Thanks for spending some of your weekend with Things I Wrote Down. Hope you find a few moments to relax.
1. Proof that coffee is a miracle drink
Whenever I see a headline about the health benefits of coffee, I get a good feeling inside. I don't necessarily read the article but I take it as permission to drink as much or more than I already do. Justify my intake.
But this time I read the article in full, and boy was I ever happy I did! If you have any concerns that you're drinking too much coffee this doctor suggests you can't get enough of the miracle substance and that perhaps it is the elixir of youth.
Apparently coffee consumption is as good as being on the Mediterranean diet.
So the obvious question is: What happens if we pair coffee intake with the Mediterranean diet?! 🤯
Raise your mug of dark roast to confirmation bias!
2. Denzel does Gladiator II
Did you see the trailer yet? Ridley is back with a new Gladiator film, and I can't wait for November. November 22, to be precise.
(A friend shared this chart tracking ratings of Ridley Scott's films. So many highs, so many lows. Based on the trailer, which I have re-watched multiple times, I think it'll be a great film.
I was pleased to see Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Lucilla (I think she’s an underrated actress) and that the Coliseum’s innovations are on display (water battles)!
3. Upstaged by a rabbit
I was pleased to be selected as the feature playwright this month on Scriptmore, where I publish some of my stage work. As I attempted to share about the write-up for social media, I got upstaged by a rabbit.
I thought it was funny and shared a video of the bunny.
If you’re curious about the work I have that’s featured on Scriptmore, you can check out the feature here: Script Spotlight: Unexpected by Andrew Kooman.
A poem
All the relaxing in various temperatures of water this week recalled to mind these two short imagist poems from my series of poems God/he.
Here’s waterside.
waterside i. submersed in water he glides below the surface chases shadows watches them ripple along the pool he turns his body like a sea lion squints through water at sky drops to the bottom turns his ear to the deep ii. he presses his skin against the sun hot slab of stone lets the heat sear his flesh with the clarity of a memory ©️ 2024 Andrew Kooman
Med diet, Nordic spas and copious amounts of espresso sound like the best lifestyle to me.
