Canada's new cradle to grave bullet train
What the women-led care centres Trudeau bullies can learn about the prime minister's fight for his own political life
One has to admire Justin Trudeau's fight for life, his political life that is.
The Canadian Prime Minister is a case study in advocating for his vulnerable parliamentary existence. He stomped into closed door meetings facing pressure from fellow MPs to end his political career and came out smiling for the cameras.
Many wondered what exactly was said in the secret meeting, but now we know: more MAiD, more abortions, and bullet trains.
The high speed train he proposed from Ontario to Quebec will connect Canada's most populated regions. It will be a cradle to grave bullet train, connecting the province with most access to abortion to the province with the most permissive euthanasia regime.
If you tend to cheer for babies and grandmas, you might have been jarred by the headlines and troubled by the tweets this week.
Monday was for more MAiD
Federal Health Minister Mark Holland announced early this week that the government will not contest Quebec's new law that allows advance requests for medical assistance in dying.
Essentially, people in Quebec can now pre-approve their euthanasia, choosing to end their life now if, at a future date, they are diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's.
Advance requests for MAiD are illegal according to Canada's Criminal Code but provincial law enforcement oversees criminal charges. The government of Quebec has “instructed its prosecutor's office to not pursue charges against doctors who process those requests,” notes the CBC.
Rather than consult Canadians first, enforce the law, then bring a Bill forward to change the Criminal Code so MPs can be on the record with a vote (to represent the voice of their constituents), the government will simply not do anything. Actually, it will do more than nothing.
It will look the other way as even more vulnerable Canadians die at the hand of their doctors, which sends a chilling message to the elderly.
We already know that under Trudeau’s leadership from 2016-2022, Canadian doctors have terminated the lives of a 44,958 Canadians. Dementia deaths by MAiD have increased year-over-year, moving from 7.9% of euthanasia cases to 9.0% from 2021 to 2022. Prominent advocate Amanda Achtman warns that “so-called ‘advance requests’ will drastically increase the premature deaths of those with dementia.”
While the federal government aids and abets Quebec’s Criminal Code transgressions, Trudeau has also prioritized the creation of new laws that will restrict charities that advocate for vulnerable lives.
Tuesday is for threatening women-led organizations
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister jumped onto X and threatened the charitable status of pregnancy care centres across Canada, slandering them as dishonest brokers:
The post came after his Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, Marci Ien, tabled a motion to require “more transparency” from charities providing pregnancy counsel. Read: Trudeau wants women-led, often faith-based organizations that exist to champion the lives of children in the womb to make extra sure the women their organizations exist to serve know about the very thing they exist to prevent.
We used to put warning labels on things that kill you in Canada, like cigarettes, but now we're flipping the script and alerting citizens of places that advocate for life.
Chrystia Freeland, the Finance Minister, amplified the cry for abortion access, which makes an interesting counterpoint to the tweet pinned to her X account about sustainable housing for generations.
From Cradle to Grave
It seems that a key plank in today’s Liberal housing plan is to simply reduce the population so less homes need to be built. But with less babies and less grandparents, aren’t we limiting the number of generations left around to succeed?
For some reason, Trudeau draws a direct line to his own political survival to two policies that will only expedite the deaths of the vulnerable. As though to put an exclamation on the point, on Wednesday he stood up in the House of Commons and said:
Mr. Speaker, my daughter is in the gallery today so I want her to hear me as long as everyone else does. This government is unequivocally pro-choice. We will always defend a woman’s right to choose.
As the applause of his fellow MPs thundered, the startling realization emerges: Choice for Trudeau in this context always means the ability to choose to terminate a life. Even his future grandchild’s.
Can you imagine how different Canada would be if Trudeau put the same energy for his own political survival into fighting for the vulnerable?
We’d live in a completely different country.
Future Canadians who have a right to enter the country through the womb and elderly Canadians who need dignified care need to look for champions outside of the Liberal’s current cabinet.
As Trudeau builds his bullet train that will accelerate the speed Canadians travel from cradle to grave, pregnancy centres should take some cues from their prime minister. In fact all Canadians who care about the vulnerable should take note and fight as unashamedly for the lives of the vulnerable as Trudeau so shamelessly fights for his own political life.
